Arunoday Thakur, a Bachelor of Design student from the Institute of Design, Nirma University, from the 2020–2024 batch, has been awarded the 3rd prize in the Documentary category at the prestigious Mahakoshal Film Festival. Competing against 173 entries, including contributions from professional filmmakers with experience in organisations such as Public Service Broadcasting Trust (PSBT) and Doordarshan, Arunoday’s film Tire Tire Narmada stood out for its depth and originality.
The film explores the sacred Narmada Parikrama, weaving together stunning visuals of the river and heartfelt stories of the Parikramawasis. Officially screened at the festival in Jabalpur to an audience of nearly 100 people, this recognition has been a significant milestone in Arunoday’s journey.
Reflecting on this accomplishment, Arunoday remarked, “This achievement is especially meaningful as it validates the effort and vision behind Tire Tire Narmada. Competing against such experienced filmmakers and securing this recognition is an honour I deeply cherish.” He also credited his success to the invaluable mentorship and guidance of his professors, which played a pivotal role in the film’s development.
“Prof. Sangita Shroff, Director of the Institute of Design, provided the freedom and encouragement to experiment and grow,” Arunoday said, acknowledging the pivotal role she played in shaping his creative journey.
Arunoday’s education at the Institute of Design, Nirma University, was instrumental in shaping his filmmaking approach. “Institute helped me think critically, solve creative challenges, and communicate visually. These skills were crucial in crafting Tire Tire Narmada and ensuring its narrative was impactful,” he added.
The recognition at the Mahakoshal Film Festival highlights his dedication to celebrating regional stories with universal appeal. Arunoday continues to submit Tire Tire Narmada to various competitions, hoping to share more good news in the future.
