BREAKING NEWS
New Delhi, 11 February 2025 – The University Grants Commission (UGC) has announced the discontinuation of the UGC Consortium for Academic and Research Ethics (UGC-CARE) listing of journals. This decision was made during the 584th meeting of the Commission held on 3rd October 2024, following the recommendations of an expert committee1.
The UGC-CARE initiative, established by a Public Notice dated 28th November 2018, aimed to promote academic and research ethics by providing a curated list of peer-reviewed journals. However, the Commission has now decided to develop new suggestive parameters for choosing peer-reviewed journals by faculty members and students1.
These new parameters have been developed by a group of experts and academicians and are now available in the public domain for feedback. Stakeholders, including Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), faculty members, researchers, and students, are invited to provide their feedback on these parameters by 25th February 20251. Feedback can be sent to the email address: journal@ugc.gov.in.
Prof. Manish R. Joshi, Secretary of the UGC, emphasized the importance of this transition and encouraged all stakeholders to participate actively in the feedback process to ensure the development of robust and effective parameters for journal selection.
