SGSITS Indore Commemorates World Telecommunication Day under IETE Student Forum

The Department of Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering at Shri Govindram Seksaria Institute of Technology and Science (SGSITS), Indore, Madhya Pradesh, celebrated World Telecommunication Day on May 20, 2025, under the auspices of the IETE Student Forum (ISF). This year’s theme, as designated by the IETE headquarters, was “Gender Equality and Digital Transformation.”

 

The event featured insightful sessions from three distinguished speakers:

Mr. Mrinal Jain, Business Head, KADAM HOT, Bangalore

 Mr. Aditya Sonwalkar, HAM Radio Expert and SGSITS Alumnus

 The proceedings commenced with a keynote address by Prof. (Mrs.) Urjita Thakar, who delivered a compelling talk on bridging the gender divide in STEM and the digital sector. Her thought-provoking insights encouraged students to embrace inclusive practices and underscored the importance of equal representation in the evolving digital landscape.

 

Mr. Mrinal Jain, a renowned entrepreneur and startup mentor, conducted an engaging session on startup culture in India, highlighting the need for innovation, adaptability, and entrepreneurial resilience. His address was both informative and inspiring, offering students a real-world perspective on building successful ventures in the communication and technology domains.

 

Following this, Mr. Aditya Sonwalkar, a veteran in HAM Radio Communication and a proud alumnus of SGSITS (Civil Engineering), captivated the audience with a powerful session on the relevance of amateur radio technology, especially in emergency and disaster scenarios. He emphasized its value during communication blackouts and power outages. In light of his session, the institute announced its intention to organize a practical workshop on HAM radio, aimed at equipping students with critical skills in alternative communication technologies.

 

On this occasion, Dr. Neetesh Purohit, Director of SGSITS Indore, expressed deep pride in the institution’s alumni and their contributions to the nation’s technological self-reliance. He highlighted the role of SGSITS graduates in advancing indigenous technologies, particularly in the domains of HAM radio systems and defense communication infrastructure.

 

Dr. Purohit praised Er. Aditya Sonwalkar as a remarkable role model, calling him a true brand ambassador of multidisciplinary learning and innovation, and an embodiment of the values envisioned in the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He further emphasized that SGSITS is committed to evolving as a multidisciplinary academic learning hub of Madhya Pradesh, inspired by such exemplary alumni.

 

“Er. Aditya Sonwalkar, a Civil Engineering graduate from SGSITS, exemplifies passion-driven innovation. His unwavering commitment to the development of indigenous communication systems and national defense capabilities mirrors the vision of NEP 2020. He stands as an inspiration to our student community and is a shining testament to the impact of holistic, cross-disciplinary education,” remarked Dr. Purohit.

 

The celebration concluded with a project exhibition, where second- and third-year B.Tech students showcased their innovative communication-focused projects. Students were felicitated with certificates of appreciation for their commendable contributions and creativity.

 

This observance of World Telecommunication Day at SGSITS provided a dynamic platform for intellectual exchange, hands-on learning, and visionary planning. It reinforced the institute’s enduring mission to equip students with real-world competencies and a service-driven mindset, preparing them to address the challenges and opportunities of the digital age.
