This is the story of news anchors through my old diary. My passion for news journalism started during the IC 814 hijack. The excitement of news coverage during those days was at another level. Before that, only a one-hour news show was being telecast by NDTV on Star Plus at 7 PM, other than the national news channel.
I wrote the names of news anchors and reporters in 2002, and today when I see those pages, I feel that these are the real journalists and are still very relevant.
In 2002, there was no separate NDTV channel. Star News was the first private news channel in association with NDTV. Then AAJTAK launched with new features, followed by ZEE News, which was earlier “EL TV,” an entertainment television channel.
In 2002:
Rajdeep Sardesai, Rajat Sharma, Dibang, Nagma, Maya Sharma, Amitabh Revi, Sanjay Ahirwaar, Rajesh Mahaan, Jyotsna Mohan, Maya Meerchandani, Vishnu Som, Sandeep Bhushan, Abhigyan Prakash, Manoranjan Bharti, Shrinivasan Jain, Shivnath Thakral, Abhisar Sharma, Nishant Arora, and Asdurrahman Kidwai were in Star News. Later, Star News became ABP News.
Other journalism gems like Prabhu Chawla, Punya Prasun Bajpayee, Sanjay Baragta, Deepak Chourasia, Rajesh Badal, Ashutosh, Ajay Kumar, Ashraf Vani, Shams Tahir Khan, Sikta, and Vikrant Gupta were in AAJTAK.
Anurag Tomar, Meghna Samant Pushpala, Piyush Padmakar, Karun Kumar, Priyank, and Shrikant Pratyus were in ZEE NEWS.
These journalists, with experience of more than two decades, are still holding strong the fourth pillar of our democracy.
