NIRF Rankings 2024: Top HEIs under various categories

New Delhi, August 12, 2024 – The Ministry of Education, Government of India, announced the 2024 under the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) rankings. This marks the ninth edition of this annual exercise, which evaluates and ranks higher education institutions across the country.

The NIRF was launched on September 29, 2015, and has since become a benchmark for academic excellence in India. The framework assesses institutions based on several parameters, including Teaching, Learning & Resources, Research and Professional Practice, Graduation Outcomes, Outreach and Inclusivity, and Perception.

  • Overall: Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.
  • Universities: Jawaharlal Nehru University, Banaras Hindu University, University of Delhi.
  • Engineering: Indian Institute of Technology Madras, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.
  • Management: Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Indian Institute of Management Bangalore, Indian Institute of Management Calcutta.
  • Medical: All India Institute of Medical Sciences Delhi, Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Chandigarh, Christian Medical College Vellore.

Key Highlights of India Rankings 2024:

  • Comprehensive Evaluation: This year, the rankings cover institutions across various disciplines such as Engineering, Pharmacy, Management, Architecture, Agriculture, Law, Medical, Dental, and General Degree Colleges.
  • Increased Participation: The 2024 rankings saw an overwhelming response from higher education institutions, reflecting the growing importance of quality education and institutional accountability.
  • Top Performers: The top-ranked institutions in each category will be highlighted, showcasing their commitment to excellence and innovation in education.
  • Expanded Categories: This year, three new categories have been introduced: Open Universities, State Public Universities, and Skill Universities, bringing the total to 16 categories and subject domains3.
  • Increased Participation: The number of participating institutions has grown significantly, with 10,845 applications received from 6,517 unique institutions4.
  • Objective Metrics: Rankings are based on five broad parameters: Teaching, Learning & Resources, Research & Professional Practice, Graduation Outcome, Outreach & Inclusivity, and Perception5.
